The InterWorx Server Management Platform was born out of the skunkworks-like software engineering environment that makes up daily life at NEXCESS.NET Internet Solutions. What was conceived as an internal-only project for NEXCESS.NET’s use, and as one of its competitive edges, morphed into a full featured suite of tools aimed at the hosting industry.

NEXCESS.NET began development on SiteWorx, “version 1” in early 2001. It was written entirely from scratch using the now ubiquitous pairing of the PHP programming language and the MySQL database engine. SiteWorx was designed to be simple, user friendly and most of all extensible. The original SiteWorx did its job well, so well in fact that SiteWorx “version 2”, as it was known to NEXCESS.NET clients, actually became the cornerstone of the InterWorx project. The original SiteWorx had been used and abused enough that, while it was labled “version 2”, it might as well have been re-labeled “version 1” as its guts had been modified so much that it was indistinguishable from the original, at least internally.

No control panel system is complete without an administrator level view of the system. So, from SiteWorx’s designs, a second tool was designed to handle the server level and reseller level functions. This tool was dubbed “NodeWorx” (for those not familiar, a “node” in computer terms usually means a computer which is connected to a network). NodeWorx’s features and interface quickly grew from a simple “SiteWorx account creation engine” to a full-fledged server management tool. InterWorx-CP was alive :).

InterWorx-CP is but a piece in what is a larger puzzle named InterWorx. The InterWorx line of tools, starting with InterWorx-CP, are meant to solve the most basic hosting and server management problems as a fully functional suite of software solutions. The InterWorx Team, backed by NEXCESS.NET, is committed to forging new, innovative solutions and providing the most robust and reliable software to the hosting industry.
