View Full Version : Nano/Pico, Emacs or Vi/Vim?
I prefer nano, but I was wondering what everyone else prefers.
Please try not to flame :p :)

Always used to be pico on Suse many years ago. Now its nano one of the first things I do when setting a box up is to symlink pico command to nano
Saves so much hassle ;)

I only know about VI (of course not advanced/all commands ;) )
A problem with vi is, when you forget that it is in cmd mode and start typing text ;)
Is there any text editor in Linux/Unix that has almost similar commands as in Windows?
(e.g, Ctrl+C for copy, Ctrl+V for paste, SHIFT+navigation for selection, etc)
Of course I have voted for Vi/Vim

Pico/Nano has similar functions tiger:
Ctrl+W = Find
Copying is achieved by highlighting and clicking where you want selection pasting.

I've only used pico and vi(m). I thought pico was okay back on unix stuff in college but I only use vim now for linux.

I do the same, typing pico is a bad habit of mine from using it ages ago. I prefer pico/nano over vim and the others because "it just works", people complain about line breaks and stuff, but that doesn't happen if you run 'pico -w' or 'nano -w' =/
