How to add a .htaccess file

Prerequisites

An existing SiteWorx account.

Purpose

Before you can use the .htaccess file features, including Access Control, Custom Error Documents, MIME-Types, etc, a .htaccess file must be created.

Procedure - Add a domain wide .htaccess file

  1. Click on the Site Services menu if it is not already expanded.
  2. Click on the ♦    Directory Options item.
  3. You should now be looking at the Directory Options Management controls in the main content area.
  4. Locate the Global Directory Options section.
  5. If a domain wide .htaccess file does not already exist, you will see an Add button. Click this button to add the .htaccess file.
  6. You will see the following message at the top of the screen: » The .htaccess file was added: directory.

Procedure - Add a directory specific .htaccess file

  1. Click on the Site Services menu if it is not already expanded.
  2. Click on the ♦    Directory Options item.
  3. You should now be looking at the Directory Options Management controls in the main content area.
  4. Locate the Per Directory Options section.
  5. Choose the directory you want to create this .htaccess file in from the Directory drop-down menu.
  6. If you would like this new .htaccess file to be immediately enabled upon creation, choose “Enabled” from the Status section.
  7. Click the Add button.
  8. You will see the following message at the top of the screen: » The .htaccess file was added: directory.
