How to enable a .htaccess file

Prerequisites

An existing SiteWorx account.
An existing disabled .htaccess file

Purpose

Before you can use the .htaccess file features, including Access Control, Custom Error Documents, MIME-Types, etc, a .htaccess file must be enabled.

Procedure - Enable a domain wide .htaccess file

  1. Click on the Site Services menu if it is not already expanded.
  2. Click on the ♦    Directory Options item.
  3. You should now be looking at the Directory Options Management controls in the main content area.
  4. Locate the Global Directory Options section.
  5. If a domain wide .htaccess file is currently disabled, you will see aEnable button. Click this button to enable the .htaccess file.
  6. You will see the following message at the top of the screen: » The .htaccess file was enabled: directory.

Procedure - Add a directory specific .htaccess file

  1. Click on the Site Services menu if it is not already expanded.
  2. Click on the ♦    Directory Options item.
  3. You should now be looking at the Directory Options Management controls in the main content area.
  4. Locate the Per Directory Options section.
  5. Click the checkbox next to the directory or directories you want to enable the .htaccess file in.
  6. Using the drop down at the bottom of the list of directories, select “Enable”.
  7. You will see the following message at the top of the screen: » The .htaccess file was enabled: directory.
