Pete Carter: There is no way you could ever test those (how many) scripts for their security. There needs to a replacement for simple scripts, (call it Popular Scripts or something like that) and keep updated copies of Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla, etc locally. You wouldn't need but maybe 10 or so of the highest quality software, with the ability of each individual to add their own or remove the ones they don't want.

  2. Corey Northcutt: Pete- what script installer would you prefer to see integrate with InterWorx?

SimpleScripts/Softaculous may have flaws, but there is at least a focus to keep them a bit more ahead of the curve than ScriptWorx once was. This was basically a shorter list of scripts that worked exactly as you're suggesting, but I believe the extra dev demands of keeping constantly up-to-date and tested with the newest releases of everything, all the time, drew a bit too much away from the core product. It basically amplified the potential for these kinds of problems that you're speaking of.

You can however limit the # of available scripts in Softaculous, as it sounds like you'd like to limit it to those that you've also tested yourself:

  3. Michael Dance: Maybe Simple scripts is rubbish, but Softaculous is far from it. You don't need to install any of them. The only other script installer is Installatron which is worse.

    • Shyuan: Agreed with Michael. Simplescript and Installatron maybe are junks, but Softaculous shouldn't be. The developers there are very active. Also, since so many are using Softaculous, I am sure developers will take care of their popular product by tackling the reported issues/vulnerabilities efficiently. :)
